Term 1 reflection

Fiafia is coming! This week our school is having a fiafia night. It is a performance when different cultures show their own performances for a symbol of their country. There will be hip-hop, drumming and much much more. Food stores will be open for people and seats for them to sit down and watch. The stage will be on the field.

I'm in the Samoan group! I chose this group because this will be the only time for me to shine in my culture. This is my last year doing fiafia at this school. So this year I’m going to try my best at being a good role model. Jay’lee, she is a good leader for our group and a big thank you to her mum Timmy for teaching us the dance. Our group has been working hard to get the dance right. Now we just need to practice smiling and our singing.

This Thursday 18th of April 2013 will be the 60th anniversary of Point England School. That’s why our school is having fiafia. To celebrate the anniversary of our school. I am very nervous of this week. I'm starting to get overjoyed about this because this is the first time we are performing outside. Performing in front of hundreds of people has to be the thing I’m afraid of. Being confident is what I have to do on the day. Just smile and have fun is my way to get confidence.

My whole family from my Samoan and Maori side will be coming. My family loves watching me perform in fiafia. When I start dancing I always hear my dad yell my name. My dad is Samoan I support him on his softball sport. He plays for Otahuhu softball club, he teaches me how to swing and pitch. He is the best dad I could ever have. He supported me through my days of tea ball and now I’m going to make him proud to dance in my cultural group.

Being in fiafia is fun. I love to join hip-hop and Samoan because they are my favourite dances I love to join. What I love about hip-hop is that you get to dance however you like. Samoan, what I love about Samoa is that I get to represent my Nana who took care of me my whole life that’ll make my family proud especially my Nana that is watching me from above.

FIAFIA IS FUN!!

My Learning At School!

Walking in class my friends and I sat on our desk’s. Talking about what we’ve been doing lately and having a laugh like always. The bell rings, we quickly get our netbooks and turn them on. We have a look at what we’re doing for the learning block. We started writing and I’m just starting my paragraph one. So I ask my friend for some help to read my writing!.

Second block we have P.E. It is my favourite subject in class learning time! I love running and I love being sporty. We sat down and our teacher Mrs. Lagitupu  told the girls first that we had to run around the field once! I jogged first and then ran! I got half way and I tried my best to not stop! I am slowing down but I need to push myself harder! I keep on going, nearly there I finally made it and a HOORAY I shouted at the top of my lungs!
The class takes a three minute rest time. All of the girls stand up so we can do shuttle runs. !GO! our teacher told us. We ran to the first tree and back. !GHOST! she tricked us so we still carried on to the second tree and then the third. One more and I sprinted off because I was tired. I finally got back and dropped so I could have a big long rest. Then  it was the boys turn to do the  shuttle run! They were just slower than us.

We got back to class and I quickly ran to get my netbook. I sat down and went on xtramath. Xtramath is a site for kids to 10 year olds and up. You have to guess the answer before the time runs out. I am on two seconds division. I love my math too! I’m really into multiplication but I still struggle. After I finish my math I go on Math Whizz. It might sound familiar and yes it is a Math site. It helps me get better at my math, specially my long division. I’m getting way better than last year.

Last block was inquiry which is topic. During our time we finish off our movies or our podcasting. My podcasting is mainly about the book called A Diary Of A Wimpy Kid (Dog days). Some of you’s might of seen the movie but I haven't. So I just read the book about it! It really caught my eye so that’s why I chose that book! My buddy partner is Ashlee! She is one big help. She helps me through my story and helps me what to say. Her book is called Geronimo Stilton.

BRING!!!  The bell rang everybody packed up and quickly got their bags and sat down to be dismiss! Everybody was waiting until everyone was quite. Good Afternoon class our teacher said gladly. The whole class replied back good afternoon Mrs.lagitupu and zoomed out! Walking home with my friends having a laugh we saw free swings and we all had a race of who would get the swings first.

What we do on fiafia practice's!

Laughing with joy the Samoan group was practicing! Over and over we have to get this dance right. All in positions and we are all ready! the song starts to play and a smile came on our faces! With a big wave of our hands it was tiring. We had 5 minutes break and after we will practice our song.

Tausagi Mai manu e! Everybody started to sing. We stopped a couple of times time get our voices to sing properly! My friend was trying to help because I struggled when it came to singing! Learning the words has to be the key thing I need to practice on!!! Singing fast might be easy for some Samoans but for me it’s HARD!!

Dancing some more I’m getting use to the dance. We started again and I got it! So now I like dancing to the song at home and I tried to teach my cousins how to do the dance! Looking side to side I see my friends having fun. The action I hate is always bending down because it makes my knees sore, but I don’t mind because I'm used to it.

We all gathered around and our teacher told us that we have to smile and just enjoy it! We did one more song practice. We sounded great!! Our next practice's will be on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday!

I love Fiafia practice.

Easter

Easter is the best holiday only for five days. In those five days I usually spend them with family.

On the first day I’ll relax and then hang out with my brother. Then will go see how my families doing setting up the Easter hunt! After I’ll go with my aunties to go get the stuff to make the Easter hunt for the little ones. We got chocolate Easter eggs and paint for my Mum and uncle to paint faces on the day. During the hunt of shopping I wondered if we should have maps to make it easier for the little ones, my mum thought it was a great idea!

The second day will be setting up the plan of where we should hide the Easter egg’s. As the adults were setting the plan I was distracting the little one’s so they wouldn't know what we were up to. They thought I was acting strange and suspicious but I told them I was just happy. They thought I was hiding a present but they still didn't know what was going on.

The third day we got everything prepared for them. I got them to gather around and to follow me. One of the kids said where are we going? I said to a special place called the backyard, the kids laughed! I took them around the house like five times just to make sure the adults were ready. I walk outside and saw my Mum, Aunt and Uncle standing there with Rabbit faces on them. The three of them gave maps to a  different child. One for Teilah another for Laurel and one more for Tyreese! They all were excited when my mum shouted GO! They zoomed off like animals trying to find heaps of Easter eggs.

I helped the youngest one Tyreese. I gave him a clue where one was. He looked in the bushes and saw a purple and a blue Easter egg. FOUND ONE!!! Teilah shouted, ME TOO! came from Laurel. I went to Laurel and just check how she is going with the Easter hunt. She found three Easter eggs! So I went over to Teilah and she found two, exactly like Tyrese!

I came back and saw Tyreese with loads of Easter eggs, I was wondering how he found those so quickly? I checked his map but what I only saw three lines on it not six. Where did you find these? I asked him. He said the trees! I never knew they hid it behind the tree’s. After 30 minutes we all huddled in a circle. I was shocked of how many all of them found! Teilah had 8, Laurel had 5 and Tyreese had 10 I couldn't believe it. After we all ate the chocolate Easter eggs the kids settled down and watched some movies, they finally fell asleep!
